On the relation between biometric quality and user-dependent score distributions in fingerprint verification

چکیده
The lack of robustness against image quality degradation is a open issue in fingerprint verification. It has been found in previous studies that the behavior of a fingerprint verification system may vary depending on the quality of the fingerprints. In this paper, we study the performance for individual users under varying image conditions using a multisensor database acquired with three different fingerprint sensors. We propose a user-dependent score normalization scheme that exploits quality information, reaching an EER improvement of ∼ 15% in one particular sensor. We have also included the proposed score normalization scheme in a multisensor fingerprint verification system that combines the three sensors, obtaining an EER improvement of∼ 13% in the best case 1.

متن کاملComparison of ROC and Likelihood Decision Methods in Automatic Fingerprint Verification
The biometric verification task is to determine whether or not an input and a template belong to the same individual. In the context of automatic fingerprint verification the task consists of three steps: feature extraction, where features (typically minutiae) are extracted from each fingerprint, scoring, where the degree of match between the two sets of features is determined, and decision, wh...
متن کاملBayesian adaptation for user-dependent multimodal biometric authentication
A novel score-level fusion strategy based on Bayesian adaptation for user-dependent multimodal biometric authentication is presented. In the proposed method, the fusion function is adapted for each user based on prior information extracted from a pool of users. Experimental results are reported using on-line signature and fingerprint verification subsystems on the MCYT real bimodal database. Th...

Providing banking services, especially online banking and electronic payment systems, has always been associated with high concerns about security risks. In this paper, customer authentication for their transactions in electronic banking has been discussed, and a more appropriate way of using biometric fingerprint data, as well as encrypting those data in a different way, has been suggest...
متن کاملA Comparative Evaluation of Fusion Strategies for Multimodal Biometric Verification
The aim of this paper, regarding multimodal biometric verification, is twofold: on the one hand, some score fusion strategies reported in the literature are reviewed and, on the other hand, we compare experimentally a selection of them using as monomodal baseline experts: i) our face verification system based on a global face appearance representation scheme, ii) our minutiaebased fingerprint v...
